Their story… We met at a country music festival in Indio, CA called Stagecoach! At the time, I was living in Los Angeles and he was living in San Francisco. Despite the fact that he grew up in South Africa, he fell in love with country music as an adult attending Berkeley undergrad. Being originally from Montana myself, I’ve always had an obsession with country music and took it with me when I moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA. The night we met we spent the whole night dancing, singing along to Jason Aldean and talking about everything under the sun. He asked for my number at the end of the night and the rest is history. Being long distance at first, we spent many weekends visiting one another and sending novel length text messages all day every day helped us to develop stronger and stronger feelings. In May of 2016, I moved to San Francisco so that we could be together. And one year later, he proposed in the most romantic and magical way I could ever imagine. I said yes and will continue to say yes to his love the rest of our lives. We are so blessed to have found one another via our love of country music!
The proposal… On a beautiful sunny Saturday in San Francisco, we woke up with “no plans.” After going to our favorite breakfast spot in the city and playing a competitive game of backgammon on our roof, he told me that we had plans at 2:15pm and that I should wear something nice. At that point I had a suspicion a proposal might be coming but I had no idea what lay ahead for me and all the preparation and thought he had put into the day. We got in the car and he made sure to keep it a total secret where we were driving to. We eventually stopped in Carmel, a very meaningful place to our relationship as we have celebrated anniversaries there before. We had a lovely dinner at a restaurant I’ve always said I wanted to go to. Then we got in the car again and started driving towards Big Sur. After pulling over at one outlook and getting back in the car, we made our final stop at another outlook and walked down a path towards a beautiful cliff overlooking the ocean. He asked me to wait there for him and next thing I know, Nicole walked towards me and handed me an envelope that said open me and keep walking. As I walked down the path further, there were four cards on the ground all with my fiancé’s favorite dates and moments of our relationship with rose pedals strewn all around them. At the end my fiancé was waiting holding a beautiful bouquet of flowers standing in front of a lovely table set for two with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. He got down on one knee as I was tearing up and asked me to marry him. I was so overwhelmed with joy, excitement and love. It was so perfect. I couldn’t dream of a better proposal!
